Located just south of Pismo Beach and Avila Beach, the coastal communities of Grover Beach and Oceano offer a laid-back beach lifestyle with a distinctly adventurous edge.

As you travel down the coast, the shoreline opens up into a wide, accessible stretch of sand where visitors can actually drive onto the beach—either from the end of Grand Avenue in Grover Beach or via Pier Street in Oceano. This unique feature is part of the renowned Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area, California’s only state park that allows private vehicles on the sand. Here, beachgoers can set up for the day with tailgating, beachside campfires, and unforgettable sunsets, or explore the dunes by foot or off-road vehicle.

The area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and vacationers alike, with a variety of RV and manufactured home parks, as well as nearby state and county campgrounds. At the same time, both towns offer established neighborhoods, creating a balance between recreation and everyday living.

Grover Beach brings a strong sense of community, hosting events along Grand Avenue and at Ramona Garden Park, which is also home to the local library and the engaging Exploration Discovery Center. The city continues to grow while maintaining its relaxed coastal charm.

In Oceano, the spirit is a bit more rugged and playful. The towering dunes attract off-road enthusiasts for sand buggy adventures, while the beloved Great American Melodrama has been entertaining audiences since 1976 with lively performances filled with music, humor, and audience participation.

Both communities are also rooted in agriculture, with local favorites like Hayashi Fruit Stand and Okui’s Strawberry N’ Fruit Stand offering fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables that reflect the richness of the surrounding farmland.
